Toe Wrestling Championships

“Roaring” Rory and “Daring” Dan researched and prepared a non-chronological report on the 'Toe Wrestling Championships'

TOE WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

When and why did it start?
World toe wrestling championships take place in a village in Derbyshire in the UK annually since 1976. The competition began when a group of British walkers set about to create a game only British people could win.

Who are the world champions?
The current world champions are Rebecca “Doctor” Beech for the women and for the men Alan “Nasty” Nash who has won the title an incredible 14 times.

The future of the sport?
The organizers have big intentions for the sport, and applied in 1997 for its inclusion in the Olympic Games. Unfortunately for unusual sports fans it was not accepted however they may apply again in the future.

The Rules
The sport is more like arm wrestling than professional wrestling.
A full toe inspection is performed before competing
Players must have their toes thoroughly examined by a qualified nurse before they’re given the go ahead
Players remove their shoes and socks, interlock their toes, and then try to pin one another’s foot to their respective sides of the ring
There are three rounds
Winner is determined on a best two out of three basis
Players alternate feet (right, left, then right again) between rounds
