Victor's Laboratory
We are continuing to work hard on our own versions of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. To help us with our descriptions of Victor Frankenstein's laboratory we created our own version in J4.

Electricity Explanantion by Sarah
Here is Sarah's explanantion on electricity and electrical circuits.
What is Electricity?
Electricity is a source of energy that can be generated by
many things such as batteries, the sun and wind power. Electricity is used to
power many things such as lights, radios, cars, trains, hairdryers and much more.
These items all contain an electrical circuit. An electrical circuit is a path
through which an electrical current flows. You can build a simple circuit to
see the flow of electricity in action.
What do you need to build a circuit?
To build a circuit you will need wires, batteries, crocodile
clips and a bulb or any other receiver.
How do you build a circuit?
First, gather the necessary materials and check each part
carefully because any damage might result in an electric shock. Next, place the
batteries into the battery pack. Make sure they are the right way round in
relation to polarity (+, -) so that the electricity will flow through the
circuit. After that, attach one crocodile clip to each of the metal circles on
the battery pack. A few moments later, attach the other end of the crocodile
clip to the metal screw of the bulb holder. Then, repeat with the other wire so
that the two wires lead from the battery to the bulb holder. Finally, you will have
formed a circuit and as a result electricity will flow through the circuit and
light the bulb.

Electrical Conductors
In Science we discovered some
materials let electricity pass through them easily. These materials are known
as electrical conductors. While experimenting we found that coins, keys, scissors, tin foil and zips worked as
electrical conductors.

Dear J4
We received a letter asking for some advice following our residential to Castleton. Our Agony 'Uncles' Jamie and Gabriel responded.
Dear Worried in Year 3,
After recently returning from Castleton I am in the perfect
position to put your mind at rest.
Firstly, you may be worried about missing your parents. It’s
normal to miss your parents especially if you are young and it is the first
time being without them, I was the same. To help me I took a teddy from home.
Next, if you don’t like the food, which I think you won’t
because it’s delicious! You can either bin it and get something else or eat it
and wait for pudding.
Sharing rooms may worry you but it’s not a problem. I was
put in a room with my best friends and one of my friends was somewhere else,
but he was allowed to come in with us in the morning, before tea and after tea.
Overall I had great fun, everyone should try it.
Yours sincerely
Jamie
Dear Worried in Year 3,
After recently returning from Castleton I am in the perfect
position to put your mind at rest.
Firstly, you may be worried about missing your parents. It’s
normal to miss your parents especially if you are young and it is the first
time being without them. In my room I had a friend who was very supportive when
I missed my parents and I’m sure you will too.
Next, if you are with someone who isn’t your best friend
remember you’re only sharing with them two nights. Also you can go see your
friends in the morning and evening. You might be sleeping with your friend
though and get your own bathroom.
Finally, if you don’t like the food you can always have a
jacket potato and if you don’t like that you can have some salad. There’s loads
of other options to eat and to look forward to.
I hope you have a good time at Castleton
Yours sincerely
Gabriel
