Dork Diaries Review by Zikra

Wee Free Men Review by Malachi

Little Red Play

We performed our scripted versions of 'Little Red' today. Here are just a few of the great performances.

Self Doubt

In assembly Mr Watson showed this video and talked about doubt. He also discussed strategies we can use to challenge the doubt in our minds. Rory, Jake, Jamie and Dylan produced some fantastic poetry based on doubt and what we can do to overcome it. Enjoy

Little Red - Scripted Play

This week we have been writing play scripts using the dialogue from 'Little Red' by Marjolaine Leray. We have been thinking carefully about stage directions, including the use of fronted adverbials.

Little Red play script by Isaac, Malachi, Aidan, Safi, Zikra and Ameera

Character’s
Red
Wolf

Scene – two characters enter stage left. One slim spindly limbed black wolf closely following a small girl in a flaming red cloak.
Wolf: (Aggressively pull Red by the shoulders)
Red: Oi
Wolf: (Menacingly pull Red up to your face) Where are you going?
Red: To my granny’s
Wolf: (Carry Red like a rugby ball to right of stage) Oh no you’re not
Red: Why?

Scene – A square, rough table sits to the right of stage
Wolf: (Effortlessly place Red on top of table, licking lips) Dinner is served!!!
Wolf: (Tie a napkin around your neck)
Red: What’s to eat?
Wolf: (Hungrily leap at Red and ferociously roar) Joooseeey Red Meat!!!!
Red: (Surprisingly) Gosh, what big ears you’ve got?
Wolf: (Stroking ear, creepily) All the better to hear you with….
Wolf: (Snarl and bear teeth)
Red: (Bravely) You’re so hairy
Red: (Grab wolf’s snout) Wow, big eyes too
Red: (open wolf’s mouth with both hands) and those are seriously big teeth
Wolf: (Roar wildly) All the better to eat you with
Red: (Defiantly) No
Wolf: (shamefully, meekly) no?
Red: You’ve got stinky breath
Wolf: (Shocked) I do?
Red: (Hand over a sweet) Have a sweet?
Wolf: (Accept sweet confusing tone) um… thanks
Wolf: (Carelessly pop sweet into mouth and swallow)
Wolf: (With both hands grab throat and with a blood curdling scream) arrghhhh!
Red: (Sit interested but casually at edge of table)
Wolf: (Fall backwards with strained eyes)
Red: (Watch on without a care in the world)
Red: (Cruelly) Fool!

Joey, Joey I'm Very Pretty!

In reading we have been reading excerpts from "Joey, Joey I'm Very Pretty". For each chapter we had to find the gist and create a headline as a way to summarise the most important information in the text. Enjoy reading the J4 journal.

Little Red

The book inspiring our learning this week is "Little Red" by Marjolaine Leray. Today we explored the key themes and vocabulary generated from the text using wax relief painting.

Timothy Knapman Acrostic

The author of Eleanor's Eyebrows Timothy Knapman was so impressed by Rory and Jake's acrostic he created one of his own. Well done boys!

A response from the Eyebrows

Eleanor's eyebrows asked Isaac to write a response from them to Eleanor. He did a fantastic job using fronted adverbials and conjunctions. Can you see where they have been used?

Dear Eleanor,

I’m writing to tell you that we are ready to come back but we think it’s important that you know where we have been.

Firstly, we saw a sign advertising a job at the zoo, so we thought we would give it a try. We were hairy like the caterpillars but no matter how hard we tried we couldn’t make a cocoon.
Next, we went to work for a magician but the tricks involved explosions so we left.

After that, we went to be hand warmers for beautiful lady beetles although we were warm we got all cramped up and left.

Later that day, we found a job as false legs for an ant who wanted to be a spider but it was boring so we left.

Almost instantly, we were spinning on wheels of a stick insect’s motorbike but we flew off so we moved on.

Eventually, we got a job as an exclamation mark on an angry sign unfortunately we got washed off.

We now hope you realise how important we are.

See you soon

A letter from Eleanor

This week, we received a letter from Eleanor begging her eyebrows to come back but it was incomplete. Luckily Vincent managed to finish the letter using fronted adverbials and conjunctions.

Dear Eyebrows,

With desperation, I am writing to you both because I realise that I have made a terrible mistake. Every night, I have been tossing and turning because I have been feeling so incredibly lonely without you gently resting on my face. After you read this, I hope you will come back to me. I beg you!

Everywhere I look, I see wonderful unique and interesting eyebrows. On a daily basis, I am struggling to express my emotions.

Again and again, people run away from me because they see the empty space above my eyes.

Annoyingly, at dinner I can’t show disgust therefore my mum piles broccoli on my plate.

At school, people make fun of me as a result I run and hide.

Finally, all that is left to say is that I love you, I miss you and I want you to come home.
Lovingly, Eleanor xxxxx

Adding with Renaming

In Maths we have been 'finding sums'. We have been exploring problems and pushing ourselves to solve these in 3 different ways. Can you see three methods that we used or is there more?

Discuss the image below from our session. Can you explain what renaming is?

Eyebrow Designs

Foolishly, Eleanor couldn't see the point of her eyebrows. I wonder if she had some like these, she may have had a different opinion? We used a 3 adjective sentence to describe our awesome designs.

We are a pair of silky, luxurious and unique eyebrows.

We are a pair of one of a kind, glorious, imaginative eyebrows.

We are a pair of cool, creative, hardworking eyebrows

We are a pair of wonderful, hoppy, cute eyebrows.

We are a pair of stunning, soft and amazing eyebrows.

We are a pair of all-weather, tough, comfortable eyebrows.

Toe Wrestling!

After an epic showdown at the J4 'toedium' the current champion toe wrestlers are "The Monster Maisy" and "Extreme Evie". If you fancy trying your hand (or should we say foot!) at the noble art of toe wrestling follow Eliza's guide below.

Toe Wrestling Championships

“Roaring” Rory and “Daring” Dan researched and prepared a non-chronological report on the 'Toe Wrestling Championships'

TOE WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

When and why did it start?
World toe wrestling championships take place in a village in Derbyshire in the UK annually since 1976. The competition began when a group of British walkers set about to create a game only British people could win.

Who are the world champions?
The current world champions are Rebecca “Doctor” Beech for the women and for the men Alan “Nasty” Nash who has won the title an incredible 14 times.

The future of the sport?
The organizers have big intentions for the sport, and applied in 1997 for its inclusion in the Olympic Games. Unfortunately for unusual sports fans it was not accepted however they may apply again in the future.

The Rules
The sport is more like arm wrestling than professional wrestling.
A full toe inspection is performed before competing
Players must have their toes thoroughly examined by a qualified nurse before they’re given the go ahead
Players remove their shoes and socks, interlock their toes, and then try to pin one another’s foot to their respective sides of the ring
There are three rounds
Winner is determined on a best two out of three basis
Players alternate feet (right, left, then right again) between rounds

Carnival Masks

In topic we created masks that could feature in the Notting Hill Carnival.
