Dear J4

We received a letter asking for some advice following our residential to Castleton. Our Agony 'Uncles' Jamie and Gabriel responded.

Dear Worried in Year 3,

After recently returning from Castleton I am in the perfect position to put your mind at rest.
Firstly, you may be worried about missing your parents. It’s normal to miss your parents especially if you are young and it is the first time being without them, I was the same. To help me I took a teddy from home.

Next, if you don’t like the food, which I think you won’t because it’s delicious! You can either bin it and get something else or eat it and wait for pudding.

Sharing rooms may worry you but it’s not a problem. I was put in a room with my best friends and one of my friends was somewhere else, but he was allowed to come in with us in the morning, before tea and after tea.

Overall I had great fun, everyone should try it.

Yours sincerely

Jamie

Dear Worried in Year 3,

After recently returning from Castleton I am in the perfect position to put your mind at rest.
Firstly, you may be worried about missing your parents. It’s normal to miss your parents especially if you are young and it is the first time being without them. In my room I had a friend who was very supportive when I missed my parents and I’m sure you will too.

Next, if you are with someone who isn’t your best friend remember you’re only sharing with them two nights. Also you can go see your friends in the morning and evening. You might be sleeping with your friend though and get your own bathroom.

Finally, if you don’t like the food you can always have a jacket potato and if you don’t like that you can have some salad. There’s loads of other options to eat and to look forward to.

I hope you have a good time at Castleton

Yours sincerely

Gabriel

How To Make Bread By Haaris

How to make Bread by Haaris

Castleton is a historic town found in Derbyshire and where we spent our recent residential. Castleton was first settled by the Celts, and the ruins of a Celtic hill fort are still able to be found on the nearby hill of Mamtor. Castleton was later settled by the Romans, who would make bread following a recipe. We made bread and you can too by following these instructions.

You will need

1 1/2 tsp yeast
1 1/2 tsp sugar
warm water
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp oil

Method
1. First in a cup add the yeast and sugar. Then fill the cup with warm water and set aside so the yeast can begin to work.
2. In a bowl add 3 cups of flour and the salt.
3. After that, add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix together.
4. Next, knead the dough until soft and stretchy.
5. Shape the bread into rolls or whatever shape you want your bread to be
6. Place in a warm place for an hour until risen
7. Bake in a hot oven until golden and crispy. Enjoy your freshly baked bread.

A letter home...

We imagined we were Viking children living in Britain. We wrote to a friend back in Scandinavia to tell them what our new life was like.

Life of a Viking Child

How was life the same and different for a Viking child compared to the life of a J4 student? We used thinking maps to compare.

Maisy's Amazing Model

Maisy made this incredibly intricate model of a Viking longhouse. Outstanding Maisy!

Isaac's Incredible Model

During the Half Term break Isaac made this incredible model of a Viking village and longboat.
